Maria Méndez, who loved to be called “Ama or grama hony” by her kids and grandkids, departed her loving family on January 24, 2022 College Station, Texas at the age of 54.
Maria Méndez was born in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato Mexico on April 16, 1967 making her the sixth child of mother Josefat Martínez and father Jose Natividad Méndez.
She was a loving mother of Mario Valtierra, Juan Valtierra, Miguel Valtierra and Lladira Sanchez. She raised her children with love and devotion in Bryan, Texas and resided here most of her life until her passing.
As she had many occupations she was known more for her cooking skills that brought her to meet many people in the Brazos and surrounding areas. When she wasn’t cooking, her hobbies were crafts, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She was most proud of her family far or close; she was the person she came to be from them. She had a big heart and strong will to move forward believing, thinking positively in everything in life no matter the hardships. She always had a helping hand to whomever needed it and she always said “there is always a way for everything if not we find one…” Over the years she came to grow in a lot of people’s hearts making her passing even harder.
She is preceded in death by Josefat Martínez, Jose Natividad Méndez, Ruben Rodríguez Martínez and grandchild Vianet Sanchez.
She is survived by her children Mario Valtierra, Juan Valtierra, Miguel Valtierra and Lladira Sanchez; grandchildren Briana Sanchez and Lizette Sanchez; as well as other family members Gustavo, Emanuel, Raquel, Lucia, Lupita, Ma. Lourdes Méndez Martínez and Sandro Rodriguez
