Margaret Cook Lambert Ravey

May 3, 1918 — May 25, 2022

Margaret Cook Lambert Ravey passed away on May 25, 2022 at the age of 104! She
was the wife of Col. Bill Ravey (deceased 2017) of Bryan and previously wedded to Col.
Floyd Lambert ’38 (deceased 1990) of College Station. As a member of the Greatest
Generation, Margaret served during WWII at the Pentagon as a stenographer, during
which time both former husbands served in the Army Air Corps (Air Force).

Margaret was born in Orangeburg County, South Carolina but lived variously in Georgia,
Virginia, Germany, France, Montana and Oklahoma. But her favorite was always Texas.
She loved travel, including trips to Israel, Italy, Asia, Singapore, Switzerland and South
America–even taking a trip down the Amazon river.

Margaret was active with the Brazos Valley Shriners and Chapter 378 of National
Sojourners, comprised of former U.S. military veterans. She was an avid Texas A&M
sports fan and could be seen (and heard loudly) at many football, baseball, and women’s
basketball and volleyball events. In her youth, she played and coached women’s
basketball. As an avid fan of nature, Margaret loved feeding her backyard “red birds” and
box turtles. Margaret was an enthusiastic gardener and served as President of the A&M
Garden Club, and as a generous philanthropist, she supported the A&M 12th Man
Foundation, President’s Endowed Scholarship Fund and the George Bush Library.

Margaret will be remembered by family and friends for her faith and courage in defeating
the scourge of cancer in her life, and for her tireless work with the American Cancer
Society–voluntarily assisting with the emotional rehabilitation of many fellow breast
cancer survivors. She was a long time member of the Two-By-Two Sunday School Class
at First United Methodist Church of Bryan, the Celebration Choir and the Caring ministry.

Margaret is survived by her son Richard Lambert (s. Mary Ellen), daughters Martie
Russell (s. Denny Lindeman), Ilene Dillon, granddaughters Katie Russell, Liz Schroeder
(s. Warren), Nicolette Gamache, grandson Jon Lambert (s. Anne), and five great
grandchildren.

The family extends our eternal gratitude to Rick and Linda Ravey of Bryan and Argrine
Howard of Plano for their loving support of Margaret over the years.
