Lois Adelle Curry Rushing passed away in her sleep on the morning of Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Bryan, Texas at the age of 94. A memorial service with a visitation will take place at Callaway–Jones Funeral Center in Bryan on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 2:00 pm. A graveside service will take place at Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan, Texas, on Saturday, October 12 at 2:00 pm.
Lois was born on Tuesday, November 26, 1929, in Bradshaw, Texas to Dollie S. and W.P. Curry. In 1947, she graduated from Rotan High School. On January 17, 1948, Lois married Bob Rushing and they were married for 46 years until his death in 1994.
Lois was raised Southern Baptist and was a member of Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, for many years. She attended Sunday School and enjoyed lunch with members after church.
Lois enjoyed a career in banking. Her career began at a Rotan bank where she lovingly earned the nickname “Brat“. At a Wells Fargo bank in Houston, Texas, she was employed as a New Account Secretary and a Private Banking Secretary. After her retirement in 1990, it was all about her family.
Lois enjoyed walking in the early morning year round with her neighbors for many years. She enjoyed taking care of her yard and tending to plants on her patio. She maintained a very tidy and clean house. She loved cooking and trying new recipes.
Lois’s family feels really blessed to have had so many years of love and memories with her.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a younger sister and infant brother; also, her brothers: Will Curry and wife, Nell, and Dean Curry; her sisters: Kathleen Rinehart and her husband, Arthur, and Pat Weckerly and her husband, Norman.
Lois is survived by her sister: Sue Vaughan and her husband, Frank, and her sister–in–law: Marion Curry; her son: Bobby Rushing and his wife, Gail; her daughter Donna Porter and her husband, Rick, and her daughter Anissa Cada; her grandchildren: Erin Deatherage and her husband, Jonathan; Jay Porter and his wife, Lacee; and Alison Porter and her fiancée, Jack; Justin Cada and his wife, Stacy, and Taylor Llanas; fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Lois’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
