Lillian Ondrasek Dechiro

Lillian Ondrasek Dechiro 94, passed away on Friday January 3, 2025. A memorial will be held on January 25, 2025 at Callaway Jones Funeral Home in Bryan from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.

Lillian was born in Caldwell, TX to Henry & Millie Mazach Ondrasek. She married Tony Dechiro on July 17, 1948 in Bryan, and they were married for 61 years before his passing in April 2010. They had two children Debra & Sandra. 

Lillian had a love for gardening. She had a large vegetable garden that she loved to work in. Lillian canned many of the vegetables that she picked from her garden. In her front yard Lillian had many flower beds; she collected all different colors of Daylilies and she and her friends had flower swaps in the Spring so they could fill their beds with many different varieties of flowers. Lillian also loved Bluebonnets. Her front yard was always full of them in the spring and couldn't be touched until after they seeded. Lillian truly loved the outdoors and all the animals that came into her yard. Lillian also had a soft spot for stray dogs that wandered into her yard. She could not turn them away or any other animal in need.

Lillian was also known by many as “Mamute”. That was her second name. She got that name when her first grandson was born. She wanted to be called Memaw but for some reason Eddie liked Mamute better. Everyone tried to get him to say Memaw but it always came out as Mamute. Lillian decided she liked that name better anyway. She said Memaws were a dime a dozen but she was probably the only Grandma with the name Mamute. It stuck and even some of the kids she babysat called her Mamute.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Tony, by her son in Law Edward Moore and by her brother Melvin Ondrasek. Lillian was also real close to her sister in laws and brother in laws and considered them true sisters and brothers. These include Joe Dechiro, Stella Plantt, Josephine McLaughlin, Marie Wilkerson & Charlie Dechiro. 

Lillian “Mamute” is survived by her daughters Debra Moore, Sandra Wegmann & husband Mark Sr. Her grandchildren; Eddie Moore (Amanda), Brandy Loving, Mark Wegmann Jr (Malika), James Wegmann (Kristi). Also by her great grandchildren; Aiden Wegmann, Avery Loving, Nick Corgey & Kayla Payne.
