LaVerne Jones was born to her parents Alex and Myrtle Leo Young Jones on March 27, 1939, in Fort Worth, Texas. Laverne met her true love, a man that would give his life and his future family’s life to the service of God, William “Bill” Daughtry, they married on June 3, 1955 at Jacobs Well Assembly of God in Fort Worth. Together she and Bill would welcome three children into their family Sherry, Beverly, and Larry. Sister LaVerne was very talented and share those many traits with her children teaching them piano lessons, cooking, handcrafts of needle point and crochet. She loved sharing music as she played both the piano and accordion. She will be remembered for her voice as she would teach voice lessons and would make a joyful sound unto the Lord in worship.

Her children remember her best reading bedtime stories and praying for them at the foot of theirs beds asking protection of the Holy Spirit upon them all. She loved her children dearly putting them to bed as she would sing to them each night as well. In her earlier days LaVerne’s grandmother would come to the schoolhouse and take her out for the day to show her crafts at home and how to cook. Sister LaVerne had the best of both worlds while learning in school and then having skills of survival taught at an early age. She was even a gifted painter with both watercolors and oils. Her most favorite songs were “I Would Not Be Denied” and “Ten Thousand Reasons”. Sister Daughtry was active in church ministry alongside Brother Bill Daughtry. They were also active in the community through the Bryan Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association where Sister LaVerne served as secretary. Brother Bill Daughtry served as Chaplain for the Bryan Police Department for a number of years until his health would prevent him from serving. Sister LaVerne’s philosophy in life was to “live life with God’s Word, love everybody, judge no one, be faithful, honest and trustworthy in all you do for God”. Brother Bill would always say, “It’s a good life living for the Lord” and that is how they shared their marriage daily.

Her parents; her husband Brother William “Bill” Daughtry; her son-in-law, Robert Jensen; her sisters, Katherine Jones, Patsy Jones, and Shirley Darlene Jones; her brothers, Jim Earl Jones, Donald Wayne Jones, Jerry Lee Jones, and Jack William Jones; all precede LaVerne in death.
