Our dad, Kent Mischel, 73, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, TX with his children by his side. A Celebration of Life will be held at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 located at 3001 S College Ave, Bryan, TX. The family invites everyone to join them at Tuck’s Tavern for a social following the service. Additional services and burial will take place at a later date back in North Dakota.
Kent was born July 24, 1950, in Dickinson, ND, to Dolores (Zimmerman) and Leo Mischel. After his mother’s death when he was just six weeks old, he and his sister Nancy, were raised by his mother’s parents, Frank and Mildred Zimmerman, on the farm just east of Taylor, ND.
Dad loved tinkering and building everything he ever needed. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He was an electrician, plumber, welder, painter, carpenter, and mechanic, never needing to hire a professional, mostly because he was too stubborn and a penny pincher. In addition to all his trades, he also was an avid hobbyist building models of all types, particularly model airplanes, which he loved flying. He could never throw anything away because you never know when you might need a part here or there. After migrating from North Dakota, he worked approximately 20 years at his last job, RV Station, in Bryan, TX where he made lifelong friendships. Lifelong friendships were also made at his favorite “watering hole”, Mel’s Place, now Tuck’s Tavern.
He is survived by his son, Scott (Tammie) Mischel, daughter Sheri (Troy) Frieze, grandchildren, Jacob Mischel, Savannah Mischel, Emily Frieze, Tanner Frieze, and great-grandson Luke Mischel; his sisters, Nancy Schmidt, Lucille Geiger, Mary Bertsch, Sharon Ruiterman, Diane Mischel, Lori Linder; brothers Roger Zimmerman, Gary Mischel, Duane Mischel, Donald Mischel, Dennis Mischel, and Randy Mischel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ron Zimmerman, sister Kathleen Lantz, and close friend, Nancy Arnall.
He will be remembered forever and greatly missed. We love you, Dad. Yep yep.
