Karen Sue Chastain-Elder

October 3, 1940 — December 21, 2022

Karen Sue Chastain-Elder, 82, of Robertson County, Texas entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on the morning of December 21, 2022. Born October 3, 1940 in Glen Dale, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Elmer Wiley and Edna Virginia (Allenby) Hartzell.

Karen spent her early years with her grandfather in the hills of West Virginia before moving to Ohio and eventually to Texas. She was a small business owner for many years in the Brazos Valley area. She later worked and retired from the City of Bryan Utilities. She loved reading, gardening, enjoying nature, and caring for her animals, Ms. Kitty, Snowball and Cuddles.

Karen was a loyal, loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nanna), aunt, sister and friend. Her greatest joy was her family and she will be deeply missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Joe Glendale Elder; sister, Lois Putz; brother, Anthony Hartzell; two nephews,Timothy and Dwayne LaRue; granddaughter, Chassy Chastain and beloved pets; Cocoa, Charlie Brown, Puppy, Mommacita, and Tiger. Karen leaves behind three daughters; Shelia Davis and husband Tom, Michele Chastain and bonus daughter Patricia (Missy) Henson; bonus son Guy Elder Jr.; one sister Rev. Blanch Tyree and husband Curtis; eight grandchildren, Samantha Haynie, Tyler Lewis and wife Mallory, Savannah Brooks, Piper Eaton, bonus grandchildren William Elder and Irwin Henson; Alyssa Ellis and husband Kyle and Abigail Bailey; five great-grandchildren Adally Renee Barton, Kaylee Mercer, Noah Haynie, William and Waylon Lewis; four nephews, David McGuire and wife Kelly, Micky McGuire, Logan LaRue and Curtis Tyree. Last, but not least, she leaves behind her forever friend of over 40 years Louise Buckhaults.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023, from 5pm-7pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S. College Avenue, Bryan. A celebration of life will be Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 10:30 am at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center with a reception following.
