Joyce Lanell Wrenn was born March 8, 1932 in Caddo Mills, Texas, to parents AB, “Lou,” and Trudy Lewellen. She met James W. Wrenn in Temple, Texas, three months before they married June 28, 1952. They remained faithful to each other until his death in 1997.
For most of her life, Joyce used the nickname “Dusty,” derived from her stage name, “Dusty Scott.” In her teen years, she was a professional dancer and singer, entertaining stateside for the USO and singing on the radio in Houston. She was a member of the American Guild of Variety Artists.
Not long after her two-year stint at college, she opened Joyce Lewellen School of Dance, an award-winning studio where she taught tap, ballet, and ball room dancing. Once she married, her focus shifted to the role of wife and mother and friend to many. From golf and bowling to bridge and board games, Dusty loved to play games, but her favorite activity was fishing, a conundrum because she wasn’t fond of fish.
She was preceded in death by her infant Debbie, a miscarriage Stephen, and son, Larry, and her husband Jim Wrenn. She leaves behind her daughter Linda and son-in-law Billy Yezak, through whom she was blessed with a step-family, including Jennifer and John Lusher and their daughter Amelia; great-grands Tyler and Tina Yezak and their family, and Brittany and Jon Paul McPeake and their family. Also in the family list are her “adopted-by-love” children, Sandy and James Moore, and Jan Hott Smith.
Joyce “Dusty” Wrenn led a full life. All through her days she loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.
