Jorge Luis Chunga

Jorge Luis Chunga at age 55, passed away on May 8th, 2024 in Bryan, Texas after battling a two-month-long severe bacterial lung infection. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and community member. He is survived by his wife Pilar, and his children Carlo, Sofia, and Joseph.

Jorge was born on September 30, 1968, in Piura, Peru to Luis Chunga and Doris Bouillon. He was raised with his brothers Carlos and Agusto and sisters, Ingrid, Cleydi, Silvia, Melissa, and Pierina. He graduated from San Miguel School in Piura.

In 1995, Jorge married his lifelong partner Pilar, and shortly after started his family. In 2003, he and his family moved to the United States to start a better life. After living in Los Angeles, CA for less than a year, Jorge and his family moved to College Station, TX where his children Carlo, Sofia, and Joseph grew up along with his loving pets Chelsea, Mojo, and Chester. Jorge was very proud of his children’s educational pursuits, making him an Aggie, Longhorn, and Anteater dad.

Jorge became an integral part of the community by bringing his love for Peruvian culture and cuisine to the Brazos Valley. Since his youth, Jorge was an avid dancer of Peruvian marinera. In 2015, he launched Fusion Peru with a food truck stationed at Northgate near Hullabaloo Hall, initially catering to Texas A&M students. By 2017, he transitioned Fusion Peru to a permanent establishment, expanding his reach to serve authentic Peruvian cuisine to families across Bryan/College Station. Through his food, Jorge was recognized as one of the top Peruvian chefs by the World Houston Expo, being featured on Telemundo and KBTX, and an excellence award by the Peruvian Embassy.

Jorge’s memorial service will be on May 15th, 2024 at Grace Midtown Church in Bryan, TX. Visitation with his family will start at 11 am and his funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Following the service, Jorge will be buried at the Bryan City Cemetary at 3 pm.

In Jorge’s last moments, his infectious laughter continued to uplift everyone who surrounded him, leaving an enduring imprint of joy on his friends and family. His absence will be deeply felt not only by his family here and in Peru but by the entire community.

 

Jorge Luis Chunga, a la edad de 55 años, falleció el 8 de mayo de 2024 en Bryan, Texas, después de luchar contra una fuerte infección pulmonar bacteriana durante dos meses.

Fue un amoroso esposo, padre, hermano, tío, amigo y miembro de la comunidad. Le sobreviven su esposa Pilar y sus hijos Carlo, Sofia, y Joseph.

Jorge nació el 30 de septiembre de 1968 en Piura, Perú, hijo de Luis Chunga y Doris Bouillon. Se crió con sus hermanos Carlos y Agusto y sus hermanas Ingrid, Cleydi, Silvia, Melissa y Pierina. Se graduó en el colegio San Miguel de Piura.

En 1995, Jorge se casó con Pilar, su compañera de toda la vida, y poco después formó su familia. En 2003, se mudó a los Estados Unidos con su familia am empezar nueva vida. Después de vivir menos de un año en Los Ángeles, California, Jorge y su familia se establecieron en College Station, Texas, donde crecieron sus hijos Carlo, Sofia y Joseph, junto con sus cariñosas mascotas Chelsea, Mojo y Chester. Jorge estaba muy orgulloso de los logros educativos de sus hijos, lo que lo convirtió en un padre Aggie, Longhorn, y Anteater.

Jorge se convirtió en una parte integral de la comunidad al traer su amor por la cultura y la cocina peruana al Valle de Brazos. Desde su juventud, Jorge fue un apasionado por el baile de la marinera peruana. En 2015, lanzó Fusion Perú con un camión de comida estacionado en Northgate cerca de Hullabaloo Hall, inicialmente sirviendo a los estudiantes de Texas A & M. El servicio conmemorativo de Jorge será el 15 de mayo de 2024 en Grace Midtown Church en Bryan, TX. La visita con su familia comenzará a las 11 am y su servicio funerario comenzará a la 1 pm. Después del servicio, Jorge será enterrado en el Cementerio de la Ciudad de Bryan a las 3 pm.

En los últimos momentos de Jorge, su risa contagiosa continuó elevando a todos los que lo rodeaban, dejando una huella de alegría duradera en sus amigos y familiares. Su ausencia será profundamente sentida no sólo por su familia aquí y en Perú, sino también por toda la comunidad.
