John Callaway

Mr. John Robert Callaway died on November 22, 2024, at age 74, in Franklin Texas. He was born February 16, 1950, in Palestine, Anderson County, Texas.

John attended high school in Palestine, Texas State Institute, now TSTU, for building construction. He lived in Palestine until 1970 when he moved to Bryan College Station. In 1998 he moved to Hill City, South Dakota, and returned to Texas in 1991 making his home in Franklin until his passing.

John worked at Moore Motor Company in Palestine and Callaway Rhodes Metal Buildings in 1970. When he moved to Bryan, he worked in road construction, and as a Draftsman. During his time with the Texas State Department of Corrections, he worked as a Guard, a Police Officer, a Detective in Palestine. He also worked a as a Trim Carpenter, for a cabinet company. He worked in remodeling, boat houses and pier construction, and as a Lake Patrol Man for a time. John also owned Camp Creek Café and a flower shop, Country Flowers, Callaway Concrete Construction Inc, and Camp Creek Garage & Tire, Camp Creek Rental.

John loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed woodworking and welding. He loved his church, Robertson Country Cowboy Church. John loved his family and friends and was ready to help at a moment’s notice. His loved extended to animals and his hunting dogs too. He was so good with his hands and could make or fix almost anything.

Mr. Callaway was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Callaway and his father, James Callaway. Survivors include his wife, Mickie Merle Lynne Callaway, his son, Chris Callaway, daughters, Heather Kelly, Tawnya Slafka, his brother, James Callaway, Grandchildren, Colton Callaway, Kelly Callaway, James Bonner Callaway, Cathryne Jordan, Ashley Henry, Cal Slafka, Elise Slafka, and Great Grandchildren Addison Callaway, Aiden Callaway and Abilene Henry.

A lunch in John Callaway’s memory will be held at 12:00 pm at the Robertson County Cowboy Church on November 29, 2024 followed by a service officiated by Pastor Jimmy Sanders at 2:00pm.
