Joe Curtis Tennell, 35, of Bryan passed away August 7, 2021. A Homegoing Celebration is scheduled at 10am, on August 14, 2021 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center with a viewing at 9am. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers of Bryan-College Station.
Joe Curtis was born in Bryan, Texas to Chequita Tennell and James Williams. As a young child, he loved to sing, play the drums at the Church of Living God, and tag along with his big brother Reggie wherever he went. They shared so many words of love. Any time anything crazy happened, you would hear Joe Curtis say, “Po Lil Neu Neu”. At the age of 7, he picked up the lifelong pastime of fishing.
His first job ever was working at C.C. Creations as a screen-printer with his brother Reggie and Reggie’s wife, Candace. From then on he became a full-fledged entrepreneur and started his own businesses where he sustained multiple contracts in our community. His last business was in the livestock industry. He was a visionary and spoke of all of the things he wanted to accomplish with his wife, Monica. He would will everything into existence and he started by making t-shirts of the companies he dreamed of.
His four girls, Mackenzie, Kianna, Payton, Karis and his three boys, Corey, Marcus, and Christopher are his only surviving children and seven of the many living legacies he’s leaving behind.
In his free time, Joe Curtis would occasionally stop by P.O.E.T.S. Billiards and enjoy listening to others do karaoke. He grew to admire one specific singer there who would later be his first wife. After hearing Monica sing, he decided to make the first move and send her a message on her social media account. Fast forward one month and they would be married. Just one more of many things that Joe Curtis willed into existence.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Williams; his maternal grandmother, Edna Johnson; and his paternal grandmother, Rozell Williams.
He is survived by his mother, Chequita Tennell and Beverly; his wife, Monica Marshall; his seven children; his brother, Reggie and his wife, Candace; his other brothers, Joshaua and Jamie; his sisters, Tammy and Sandra; his cousin, Odessa; his aunt, Carmen; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
