Jimmie Russell Holder found eternal rest with his Father on August 9, 2021. Jimmie was born to Lilla and
Russell Holder on March 7th, 1932 in Thornton, Texas, a small farming community in Limestone County. Jimmie went to school in Ben Hur, Texas through the 8th grade. In the fall of 1945 he enrolled at Mart High School where on his first day he met his future spouse, Billie Hinson. After graduating high school in 1949, Jimmie entered Texas A&M University and was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets. He served as the Commanding Officer of Squadron 2 in 1953. He became a life-long ambassador for the Corp and Texas A&M. It was at A&M that Jimmie married his high school sweetheart and spent the next 55 years with the love of his life. After serving three years in the U.S. Air Force, with Billie’s love and support, Jimmie began a career in banking that spanned five decades.
The Holder’s eventually put down roots and raised their children in Lubbock, Texas. Jimmie held various executive positions at 1st National Bank and Lubbock National Bank. Additionally, he also assumed leadership positions in the Southwest Lubbock Rotary Club, Children’s Miracle Network, The Lubbock Club and the Lubbock A&M Club. Despite being in Red Raider territory, Jimmie and Billie remained diehard Aggies and were well respected in the Hub City. When he eventually retired in 1996, he and Billie returned to Aggieland to be closer to his beloved family, his Class of ’53 buddies and Aggie sports.
Jimmie (called Daddy or Pop by the people that adored him the most) loved the Mart Panthers, traveling with Billie and photography – especially when taking pictures of his family. Family was incredibly important to Jimmie, and he made frequent pilgrimages back to Mart to be with his loved ones. He and Billie had many cherished friendships ranging from their Class of ‘53 classmates to the friends they made in Lubbock. He spoke fondly of these relationships until his passing. Pop was an incredible father to his three children and a doting grandfather to his five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was extremely proud that all three of his children and all five of his grandchildren are graduates of Texas A&M University. He was a brother to his sister-in-law’s and brother-in-law’s. He hungered to know what was happening in each of his family member’s lives and would riddle them with questions at every chance. His calm demeanor, big heart and quick smile rubbed off on anyone who met him. He was a kind and gentle soul.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his spouse Billie, his son Dr. Larry Holder and his brother Jackie Holder. He is survived by his daughter Lanie Thornton and her husband John of College Station and his son Jamie Holder and his wife Wendy of Hideaway. His five grandchildren; Gabe Thornton and his wife Tamara of Boerne, Leslie Nutt and her husband Davison of Cypress, Jennifer Glick and her husband Gareth of The Woodlands, Kara Sullivan and her husband Michael of Hideaway, and Kyle Holder of Wylie. Great grandchildren Ethan Thornton, Patrick Thornton, Owen Thornton, Grace Thornton, Grayson Glick, Jackson Glick, Paisley Sullivan and Wyatt Nutt. His nieces, nephews, and all of his family members will
miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, Jimmie asked that you donate to the Mart ISD Enrichment Foundation, PO Box 132 Mart, TX 76664.
