Jimmie Rae Tyree died with family at her side on March 17, 2021. This amazing woman touched many lives, quietly, with kindness, and with great love. She was a retired school teacher of 25 years and loved teaching second-grade, relishing teaching them to read. Jimmie Rae’s personal life passions were family, cooking, gardening, a love of nature, and her precious Boxers. She shared her gifts with those around her from cooking dinners for those in need to decadent treats for friends and family. Her spring garden always yielded an abundant harvest, especially tomatoes. She loved a home-grown tomato! At home, there was always something simmering on the stove, be it a pot of her famous Tyree pinto beans, Mother’s Shrimp Gumbo, or boiled Blue Crab. She cooked for an army and we always had a houseful with plates in hand. She nurtured her landscaped front yard and her meticulous attention to detail made it the prettiest in the neighborhood. You could always find a blooming gardenia, a favorite, in the mix. But her true inner beauty lies in the fact that she passed the love of these things down to her children and grandchildren, and for that, we are eternally grateful. We will miss you Mom!
A private family service will be held on April 17, 2021, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Callaway-Jones Funeral Home has made the arrangements for the family with dignity and respect.
