Jerry R. Mosley

October 15, 1939 — August 17, 2024

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Jerry Mosley passed away at home at the age of 84 after a health crisis.  Jerry will be interred in the family plot at Bryan Cemetery during a private family service.

Jerry was born in Bryan to E.P. “Dick” Mosley and Rosalie Polansky Mosley.  He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Technology from Texas A&M University in 1964.  After graduation, he married Glenda Bullock and their daughter, Pixey Anne, was born the following year.

For most of his professional career, Jerry worked for the Texas Highway Department (TxDOT), in several evolving roles from interstate design to highway safety.  He led the Graphics and Reproduction Department for many years and received the Lady Bird Johnson Award for photographic representation of highway beautification programs.  He retired from TxDOT in 1995.

Jerry’s passion through his entire life was his gunsmithing and competitive shooting.  He was a founding member of the Brazos Pistoleros and Willow Hole Cowboys and served repeated officer terms with both organizations.  He was an IPSC Master Class shooter and received numerous regional and national awards.  He was a Lifetime NRA member and certified firearms instructor.

Jerry was also known for the roles he took on in public service.  He became involved in Civil Defense while at Texas A&M and later became a Peace Officer.  He was a member of the Bryan Police Reserves for 30 years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant.  After leaving the Bryan Reserves, he served several years as a part-time Investigator for the Brazos County Attorney’s office under Jim Kuboviak.  He was a Scoutmaster for multiple troops for the Boy Scouts of America, taking the groups camping and on a 50 mile Pack & Paddle program.  He taught youth Hunter’s Safety and Firearms Safety programs and was also a licensed Concealed Carry Instructor.

He was a friend to everyone he met and a loving husband and father.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob Mosley, and many of his longtime friends.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Glenda Mosley, daughter Pixey Anne Mosley and son-in-law Joel Kitchens.
