Jean Royder Shaw

March 31, 1932 — October 14, 2024

Jean Royder Shaw , aged 92,  passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at a Georgetown, TX nursing home. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, husband Harvey, and beloved sister.

She was born in 1932 to parents John S. Royder and Prue Baker Royder at Wellborn, Texas. As she grew up in Wellborn, she learned to be a great cook and terrific seamstress from her mom.

Jean attended and graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in College Station.  While attending, she was in the Choral Club, Vice President of Future Homemakers of America, Senior Class Officer and Senior class favorite.  During these younger years, Jean was infamous in the neighborhood for her singing voice. The story was that when she would sing at home, all the neighbors could hear her from afar and would enjoy her beautiful voice. She met her future husband, Harvey Shaw, in Wellborn where he was a guest speaker at a church function.  They married in 1950 in Baytown, Texas. While Harvey was serving in the Air Force they lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  After he completed his service, they moved to the Dallas area, where Harvey was from.   They lived there for many years and raised two daughters.  They were married for 62 years.

Jean loved many kinds of arts and crafts.  She learned the art of making ceramics and excelled in it.  Soon her ceramics started winning ribbons in craft shows and fairs, however, she was most happy to have her art pieces displayed in her family members’ homes.  Jean and Harvey loved to go on camping trips, where destinations included primarily Colorado and New Mexico. They enjoyed the beautiful mountain scenery, babbling creeks and dabbling around trying to catch a fish or two.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Barry Horsak; daughter Marilyn Rushing and Partner Michael McKee: Grandson Michael Dlabaj and wife Tanya; Granddaughter Kristin Horsak; Grandson Ryan Horsak; Grandson Adam Rushing; Great Grandchildren; and a brother.

Psalms 62: 1
