Janet Wilkinson

September 27, 1931 — April 19, 2021

Janet Floyd Wilkinson,89, passed away peacefully while holding her husband, Bobby’s hand on Monday, April 19, 2021. Janet, the youngest daughter of Herman and Christine Floyd, was born September 27, 1931 in Chester, Georgia. She met the love of her life, Bobby Ray Wilkinson, a Marine Corps pilot on a blind date while in nursing school at Crawford W. Long, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. While Bobby pursued a 29-year career in the military with duty stations in Texas, Virginia, California, Hawaii and North Carolina, Janet pursued her passion as a registered nurse and at the same time she was always the gracious military spouse hosting dinner parties for 4 or open houses for 500, Janet was in her element. In 1977, they moved to Bryan, Texas. Janet loved the field of geriatric nursing working in various capacities: Director of Nursing at Crestview Retirement Center, staff development training, teaching nursing assistant courses and volunteering. Even after she retired, Janet still wanted to help people, so she volunteered 18 years at CHI St. Joseph’s Health Auxiliary; always showing up with her homemade brownies to share with the CCU nursing staff while she greeted anxious families in the waiting room. Janet was a 45-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution – William Scott Chapter, Bryan, TX serving various officer and hostess roles and active with the Bryan/College Station Military Officer’s Wives Club. Her strong faith provided her strength during Bobby’s many deployments and later as a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, she enjoyed serving on the Altar Guide for several years. Janet is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bobby and her two daughters, Rae Oldham (Larry), Starkville, Mississippi, and Bridget Burdan (John), Emporia, Kansas, granddaughter, Dehlia Christine Sutton (Jake), Americus, Kansas, grandson, John William Burdan, Emporia, Kansas, great grandson, Johnsee Sutton and numerous nieces and nephews along with numerous friends and former co-workers. The family thanks the Crestview and CHI St. Joseph Health nursing staff for their loving care.  A celebration of her life will be held for residents and staff at Arbor Oaks at Crestview, Bryan on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Janet’s ashes will be interred at a future date in Arlington National Cemetery.

The family requests donations to be made in Janet’s memory to MRC Crestview Covenant Fund, 2505 E. Villa Maria Rd. Bryan, TX 77802 or to a charity of your choice. Known for her love of butterflies –

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. – 2 Corinthians 5:17
