Janet Lou Burnett

April 15, 1948 — December 9, 2022

Janet Lou Burnett, 74, of Bryan Texas died December 9th 2022. Janet, daughter of Lyal and Lizzie Mae Jackson Weckner, loving wife of Bruce Burnett, passed away on December 9th at her home in Bryan Texas after a long battle with cancer. She passed away shortly before her 54th wedding anniversary. Janet is survived by her husband Bruce, her daughter Jennifer Satterfield and son-in-law Michael Satterfield of Bryan Texas, her sister Linda Gruber of Springfield Missouri, and her brother Rickey (Rick) Weckner of Tawanda Kansas. Janet was predeceased by her father and mother and her brother’s Jackie Noah and Donald. Janet was born on the family farm in Red Top, Missouri; and she was the third of five children.

Janet graduated from Buffalo High School and was a member of the National Honor Society as she knew education was the way to achieve her dreams. Janet attended the University of Missouri Columbia and later the University of Texas Austin studying design, horticulture, and business marketing. Janet and Bruce met in Columbia, Missouri and were married in 1968. From there the adventure began when Janet joined Bruce in Japan during his military service.

After returning from Japan, Janet discovered a passion for needlepoint when she took a class at a local yarn shop. Her dream of owning a needlepoint shop was realized when she and her best friend Jean became the owners of a charming needlepoint shop in Austin. In addition to being a small business owner, Janet was a full-time mom to Jennifer, who often could be found playing under the tables in her needlepoint shop.

After six years, the shop was sold, and Janet started her own handpainted needlepoint design and wholesale business, A Collection of Designs. The company flourished due to Janet’s incredible talent and business sense, growing from 66 to 3,000+ designs over a 23-year period. Janet’s goal was to provide the highest quality needlepoint designs available that would inspire every person picking up a canvas and stitching to become an artist creating their own one-of-a-kind heirloom. Janet’s needlepoint legacy continues on with Burnett & Bradley Needlepoint today.

Janet loved reading and scrapbooking; her creations are like pieces of art. After attending the annual national needlepoint market in California, Janet would meet up with her college friend Kathy and daughter, Jennifer, for a girl’s trip to Disneyland. Janet was a loving mother and wife, and gathering together during the Holidays with family played an important role in both Janet and Bruce’s life. She was outspoken, a dedicated artist, and business woman, who had no trouble reminding Bruce that she was always right. We love you Janet and will miss you dearly.
