Dr. James Ross Gordon Carrie

He was born in Bolton, England, the son of James, a medical practitioner, and Mabel (nee) Edwards, a schoolteacher. Both parents were Scottish. The family lived in London prior to World War Two, but moved to Scotland when the war started. After graduation from high school he completed two years of draft service in the post war British Royal Air Force as a medical corpsman. He subsequently studied Medicine in Scotland and received an M.D. degree from Edinburgh University Medical School.

While working in a hospital near London he met Luise Elise Lyding, a German-born student nurse. They married one year later when Luise had obtained her Registered Nurse qualification. After about ten years in London the couple moved to the United States with their three sons.

Following a brief spell at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, James was appointed to the Faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he worked in Psychiatry, Neurology, and Clinical Neurophysiology. He wrote several chapters for specialized medical books, and published numerous papers in scientific journals between 1967 and 1992.

In retirement he enjoyed reading, family history research, piano playing, and participation in 5K runs until Orthopedic problems ended this latter activity. He was involved in local Astronomy and Genealogy groups. He enjoyed participating in activities with his three sons, including several visits to some of his old haunts in England and Scotland.

He was preceded in death by his incomparable wife Luise, who passed away after they had been married for more than 55 years. He is survived by his sons lan, Gordon, and Ross; and by his brother Len and sister Ann in Scotland.
