On Saturday November 25, 2023, James “Barney” Phillips, a beloved husband, passed away. He was 82 years old. Born to Jim Evans Phillips and Mildred Montgomery Phillips in West Monroe, LA. Barney graduated from the University of Texas in 1963 with a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering and then earned a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1965 from UT. He went on to become a petroleum engineer, traveling and living all over the world (from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Istanbul, Turkey).
Barney is survived by his first wife, Charlene Meriam, his four grandchildren and his beloved wife, Joanna Phillips. He is preceded in death by daughter, Cynthia Elizabeth, and son, Jame Barney Jr.
Barney was known for his generosity, kindness, and unwavering faith in Jesus. He loved his ranch, his church, his family, and his dogs.
The memorial service will be on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Living Hope Bryan Church, which meets in the chapel of Grace Midtown, at 10:00 AM. The address is 2500 S. College Ave, Bryan, TX. In lieu of flowers, Barney’s family asks you to make a donation to Living Hope Bryan Church for the purpose of building a new church.
