With hearts full of love and sorrow, we say goodbye to Hortencia Camero de Brogdon, lovingly known as Tencha, Doña Hortencia, and Tita. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend whose life was a reflection of faith, kindness, and unwavering love. She passed peacefully on December 5th. Surrounded by her family and is now resting in the arms of her Lord Savior, Jesus Christ.
Hortencia was born on April 9, 1931 in Cd. Mante, Tamaulipas, Mexico. From the very beginning, she was a woman of remarkable strength, deep faith, and an open heart. Her life was devoted to her family, her faith, and the countless lives she touched with her prayers and service. She was a constant source of comfort, guidance, and faith to everyone who knew her, and her love knew no boundaries.
Hortencia had a special calling – one that she fulfilled with grace and devotion. She dedicated herself to teaching catechism, guiding countless couples in their journey of faith through marriage preparation and sharing her love for La Virgen de Guadalupe through her unwavering devotion to the rosary. Her faith led her to active participation in groups such as Rosa Mistica, Las Guadalupanas, and Adoracion Nocturna. She was always in prayer for her family, her friends, her community, and those who had needs. Her prayers brought strength and hope to so many.
Her home was always a reflection of her warm spirit. Whether through her smile, her gentle encouragement, or her quiet presence, Hortencia had the extraordinary ability to make everyone feel seen, loved, and valued. She took great joy in mentoring children in Bryan ISD, volunteering for years with boundless care and dedication. Her love for others was a gift, and the legacy of her faith, wisdom, and generosity will remail in the hearts of everyone she touched.
Hortencia was a family matriarch in every sense. Her love for her family had no end and her hugs brought so much comfort and joy to her loved ones. She leaves behind her loving children: Rica Delgado, her husband Juan, Ruth Vanoye, her husband Ramiro, Mayra Brogdon, and Clifford W. Brogdon Jr., and his wife Wynema; her devoted grandchildren: Donny Delgado, Carmen Delgado, Steven Vanoye, Joseph Cabrera, John Cabrera, Jason Cabrera, Isaiah Brogdon, Serina Martinez, Clifford Brogdon III, and Nicholas Brogdon; and her eight great-grandchildren. She is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Clifford W. Brogdon, her parents Adela and Leopoldo Camero and her eight siblings, all now at peace.
Her life was one of faith, service, and family-an example to all who knew her. Her laughter, her prayers, her love, and her kindness will forever be remembered and cherished by those fortunate enough to have shared in her journey. Her faith was steadfast, her spirit was radiant, and her legacy of compassion will live on in the lives of her family and friends.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Center Historic Church on Friday, December 13th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with the Rosary at 6:00 pm . A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 14th, with Christian burial following at College Station Cemetery.
Though we grieve her passing, we find comfort in knowing that Hortencia is now at peace, reunited with her loved ones and wrapped in the loving embrace of the Lord she served so devotedly. Her memory is a gift, one that will live on in the faith, love, and kindness she shared with so many.
