Soon after he married his former wife, Sara Berry, and they had four children: Richard, Jeffrey, Sharon, and Kathleen Morris.
During his 23-year career, Garry served the Air Force and traveled the world as a Flight Engineer on cargo transport aircraft, including the C-47, C-141, and C-5A airplanes. While stationed in Texas, Garry met the woman who would be his wife for 55 years, the love of his life, Merle Ann Roe. They had one daughter, Kimberly, and Garry loved all his children dearly.
In 1976, Garry retired from his final post at Dover AFB in Delaware and the family relocated to Bryan, Texas, in 1980. His next career began at Texas A&M University, working as a supervisor for the Physical Plant maintenance division. He retired for the second time in 1999.
Described as being “steady like a rock,” Garry was known for being infinitely patient, never given to losing his temper. He loved his family more than anything else and his focus was always on them.
In his spare time, Garry was a devoted sports lover. His favorite sport was golf, which he began playing at age 13. Garry found great joy in serving as a Marshal at Bryan Municipal Golf Course for over 20 years; playing golf daily. He was a skilled pool player as well.
Garry was a simple man who never complained, he was always finding ways to provide for his family, of whom he was so proud. He found great joy in tending his immaculate yard and garden that brought beauty to their home.
