Herman William Homeyer, Jr., 91, of College Station, Texas, was called to be with his heavenly Father on October 16, 2024. Born on April 4, 1933, in Caldwell, Texas, he was the beloved son of Herman William, Sr. and Esther Steck Homeyer.
Herman was an active member in his youth at Cooks Point United Methodist Church and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1952 before pursuing higher education at Allen Junior College in Bryan, where he graduated in 1954. He then attended Sam Houston State University, earning a BBA degree in 1956.
After college, Herman became an active member of Bryan Young Farmers, serving as president during his tenure. He also enjoyed sharing his musical talents as a member of a local singing quartet.
On April 18, 1964, Herman married the love of his life, Sadia Hughes. Together, they settled in Bryan, where they cherished life in the countryside. Herman found joy in both vegetable and flower gardening, which became some of his favorite daily hobbies. In April 2024, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends.
Herman dedicated 28 years of service to the Texas Department of Transportation, retiring as chief accountant. Even in retirement, he continued to work, managing real estate and raising cattle.
Above all, Herman loved spending time with his family. He adored moments with his sons and their families and was affectionately known as ‘Paw Paw’ by his grandchildren, who loved him dearly. A passionate traveler, he enjoyed exploring the world with Sadia, forging connections with people they met along the way. Family cruise vacations were among his favorites. He also cherished playing bridge and 42 with friends, relishing the camaraderie and competition. They also enjoyed square dancing with the Circle Squares group.
In his early years of raising his family, Herman was a deacon and active member of Northview Baptist Church, where he also served as chairman of the deacons. He later became a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas, where he continued to serve as a deacon, dedicating his life to his faith.
He was preceded in death by his son, William Calvin Homeyer; his parents, Herman Sr. and Esther Steck Homeyer; his brother, Ernest Homeyer; his sister, Edna Mae and husband O.L. Pate; and his in-laws, Thomas Hughes, Annie Mae Hughes Beeler, Wilmer C. (Bill) Beeler, and sister-in-law Mildred and her husband, Timothy Fuchs Sr.
Herman is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sadia Homeyer; his son Steven and his wife Rebecca, along with their daughters Ashley and Lauren Homeyer; his son Mark and his wife Jill, and their children, Cullen and Kate Homeyer. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas and his wife Doris Homeyer; sister-in-laws Carolyn Brinkman, Mary and her husband Roy Smith, Wilma and her husband Morton Smith; and several nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will cherish his memory.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Hospice and his sweet caregiver, Bennie, for their compassionate care.
Herman’s life will be celebrated with graveside services held on Saturday, October 26th, at 10 AM at Aggie Field of Honor Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend.
His legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
