Helen Harriet Dulak

February 13, 1930 — December 7, 2024

Bryan, Texas

                                                                                        Helen Harriet Hala Dulak

Helen, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, 94 of Bryan, Texas, passed away in Caldwell, TX on December 7, 2024, leaving a void her family cannot fill.

She was born in Mineola, Texas, on February 13, 1930, to Vladimir and Marie Hala, immigrants from Czechoslovakia. Helen graduated from Corpus Christi High School and soon after married Joe Dulak in February 1952. They were married for 30 years, until Joe's death in 1982.

Helen was a devoted mother to her two sons, Robert and Edwin; the family of 4 moved many times but eventually settled in Austin, Texas. Helen loved telling stories of her boys in their youth, stories about everything from hunting for squirrels and rabbits in the wilderness of Austin to playing baseball, football, and running track in high school and college. It was clear her boys were the joy of her life.

In the early 1980s, Helen became a grandmother and enjoyed her new role, eventually having 3 grandchildren. She maintained her youthful spirit and was such a joy to be around, always a little silly, very kind, with the heart of a servant. In 2012, her role expanded even more, earning her the new title of great-grandmother, or Great Mimi, as her 3 great-grandkids called her. She took every opportunity to see them and foster a relationship with them.

She worked for Texas Parks and Wildlife for 15 years until retiring in 1997. She loved this work and took so much enjoyment from her time there. She made long-lasting friendships that she treasured and continued long after her retirement.

Helen was a member of the Church of Christ since the early 1980s, most recently working with those at Benchley Church of Christ in Bryan, Texas. She always tirelessly served others within her community, caring for fellow widows while also encouraging the younger women.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, as well as her brothers and sisters, Leo Hala, Charles Hala, Libby Ackerman, and Mary Ann Dodd. She is survived by her sons and their families: Robert & Suzanne Dulak (daughter Amanda Dulak), Edwin & Sharon Dulak (children David Dulak-wife Amy; Jennifer Starling-husband Brandon) and her great-grandchildren, June Dulak, Jonathan Starling, and Andrew Starling. They are all thankful for her impact on their lives and the example she gave them.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Debbie Davis for her wonderful friendship and exceptional care given to Helen.

In a private family gathering, Helen's ashes will be buried next to Joe at Assumption Cemetery in Austin on December 17, 2024 at 10 am.
