Glynn Williams Jr., 84, of Wheelock passed away on November 28, 2023. Glynn was born on February 12, 1939 to Glynn Williams Sr. and Vernabeth Beard Williams. Glynn as a native Texan with a long Texas heritage, Glynn has a love for nature and all of God’s creations. Having only a small amount of art training in his teen years, Glynn earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in Economics/Business at Sam Houston State. He then moved on into graduate school at Texas A&M University when he entered the U.S. Army in 1963 as a Private and emerged in 1968 as executive officer of an Airborne Calvary Unit. After being discharged, Glynn managed various sectors of the family businesses. He later retired in the early 1980’s, however, continued to work very hard looking for ways to improve the quality in the communities for generations to come that would help preserve our beautiful land of Texas and core values as a good steward.
Having always held a creative side, Glynn became involved as an actor in television and motion pictures both in Texas and California in the eighties and nineties. Returning home to Texas and needing to continue his creativity, he called upon an artist friend Russell Cushman, to help him bring his oil painting “up to speed” after not picking up a brush in 40 years. He also studied in workshops held by G. Russell Case and Kate Sparling in Utah; Matt Smith at Scottsdale Artist School in Arizona, and most recently with Tim Vanya and Mike and Dalhart Weinberg in Texas.
Our “Home at Studio 1” Glynn painted landscapes of Texas and west of the Mississippi. Under the critical eye of his wife Jean, amateur photographer coordinates his reference photos of subject matter and locations.
Glynn was working to convert his small Central Texas farm in the rolling hills of Central Texas into nature and cultural history by improving wildlife habitat. This also entailed making places to paint and photograph nature. His love for his family, friends and nature will live on for generations.
Glynn is survived by his wife Jean Williams; daughters Kim (Williams) Decker, Sharon (Danny) Tarver, Melissa (Darrell) Flippin and Julie (Godbehere) Shearer; grandchildren Caroline and Chance Flippin and Cole Tarver; a sister Martha Williams; nieces and nephews Cindy (Billy) Jarrott and Tracy (Mitch) Ferris; cousin Mary Ann Stutts; and Sassy (aka Monsta Cat).
Preceded in death by his parents and a son Joey Shearer.
