Glenda Vernell Cohen, 58, of College Station died unexpectedly during the early morning hours on Monday, June 6, 2022, from natural causes.
Glenda was born on August 27, 1963, to George and Gertrude Stelly in Opelousas, Louisiana. She was the youngest child in the family, and attended Port Barre High School in LA. Glenda obtained an accounting degree from T.H. Harris College in Lafayette, and worked as an accountant for years before opting to become a housewife. Thereafter, she moved to Texas, managed Kmart and other stores then earned Phlebotomy certification from Blinn College in Bryan. Glenda had to quit her job as phlebotomy technician years later at CPL in Brazos County due to disabilities. Throughout her life, she enjoyed arts, crafts, reading, and socializing.
Glenda met Marvin Cohen through her son, Justin, during the time that Marvin worked at Texas A&M University. After a short courtship, they married in September 2005. Marvin became a loving father-figure to Glenda’s three children. Glenda and Marvin attended St. Thomas Catholic Church of College Station when her health permitted.
Glenda is predeceased by her parents George and Gertrude Stelly and her oldest sibling Wayne Stelly.
She is survived by husband Marvin of College Station; three children, Justin Benoit and wife Robyn of Rosenberg, Danielle Benoit-Fowler and husband Houston of Bryan, and Heather Rosen of Bryan; two step-children, Duane Rosen and Jordan Rosen of Michigan; four siblings; seven grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, June 14, 9-9:30 a.m., at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home of Bryan. A graveside service is scheduled to follow at 10 a.m., Bryan City Cemetery. Dawn Lee Wakefield will officiate.
Although the family is shocked and deeply saddened at the loss of Glenda, most of those closest to her trust in God’s plan for our lives and realize that “all things work together for the good to those who love the Lord, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
