Our family and community sadly lost someone dear to us on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, when George Sonnenberg passed away from cancer. The memory of this remarkable man will forever remain in our hearts.
George was a keen gardener who held a patience and care to nurture any flower, vegetable, or tree, prizing roses above all. He was also an ardent outdoorsman, whose hunting and fishing adventures began in the Hill Country of Central Texas and expanded south into Mexico and the most northern reaches of the United States and Canada. Mr. Sonnenberg was a professor, equally loving toward and beloved by his many students. George was also a son who, though sometimes an ornery middle child, was loved and cared for by his father and mother. He was a brother, whose bright personality and silliness brought amusement to his siblings. George was also a husband, who adored his wife. And, George was a father, who said in his closing days to his sons; “I enjoyed every moment I had with my boys.”
George Sonnenberg is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Sarah Sonnenberg, and their two sons, Joshua Sonnenberg and Timothy Sonnenberg. He is also survived by his older brother, John Sonnenberg and younger sister, Lisa Sonnenberg. He also cherished his many nieces and nephews and their children. George is preceded in passing by his parents, Mr. Milton Sonnenberg and Mrs. Shirley Sonnenberg. His legacy began from those before him, and his memory will remain with those after him.
His life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 1-3 PM, with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas.
