Frederick James Garon, age 86, of College Station, Texas, passed away on August 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on August 13, 1938, Fred graduated from Lawrence High School before enlisting in the United States Navy. During his service, he met and married the love of his life, Glenda Marie Olson. Together, they had two sons, James and Michael, and built a life filled with love and dedication.
After leaving the Navy, Fred and his family moved to Needville, Texas, to be closer to relatives. They later settled in College Station, where Fred began a long and successful career at Texas A&M University, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service.
Fred was a man of many passions. He devoted time to coaching little league baseball, enjoyed frequent fishing trips, and, upon retirement, developed a love for golf. His zest for life and commitment to his family and community left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Glenda; his sons, James and his wife Lisa, and Michael and his wife Joanne; three grandchildren, Crystal King, Stephen Garon, and Ashley Karnei; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Garon and Anna Ventrilo; his brother, Ralph Garon; his sister, Judith Larosa; and his grandchildren, Christopher Garon and Gabriel Garon.
A memorial service celebrating Fred’s life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Aggieland Humane Society.
Fred will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his generous spirit, and his joyful approach to life.
