Frank Harrington was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico to Edward (Ed) Francis Harrington and Pearl Agnes Frasier. Frank graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1947 and from New Mexico College of Agriculture & Mechanical Arts (now NMSU) in 1952 with a degree in Civil Engineering. While in college he met and married his wife of 69 years, Lois Rutz Harrington. After 2 years of U.S. Air Force active duty, Frank & Lois lived in the Sweeny, TX, area for 41 years where Frank worked as a design engineer for the Phillips Petroleum Company. During those years, Frank was active in the First United Methodist Church and was a Phillips Credit Union board member for 27 years. He used his many talents to maintain and expand the family home, maintain and repair the family cars, and help many individuals and organizations in the area.
In 1995, he and Lois relocated to Bryan, TX to be closer to their four children and their families. Frank was active in First United Methodist Church Bryan, Two by Two Sunday School class, Prime Timers, Bryan ISD HOSTS, Elder Aid, Brazos Church Pantry, Flags Across Bryan and Texas A&M Wesley Foundation’s Maroon & White Corps and its Board. Frank and Lois also enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends.
Frank had many fond memories of growing up in the Tularosa Basin area of New Mexico, especially the two years living on a ranch near the White Sands National Monument. Despite its brevity, the time at the ranch left memories he recounted throughout his life. Frank always had ideas and a shop where he could bring them to life. He generally assumed he could fix anything, and most often was right. Despite moving to an apartment at Arbor Oaks in 2013, he never stopped creating, adapting and fixing things with tools both in the apartment and a shop space shared with other residents.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Pearl Harrington, his wife Lois Harrington, half-siblings Ed Harrington, Charlie Harrington and Suzanne Wright. He is survived by his four children: a daughter, Nicki, and husband Ray George; son, Craig, and wife Lisa; son, Roy, and wife Teri; and son, Tom, and partner Mara Wilson. Frank is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Bailey, Raye and husband Ryan, Bobby, Bryce, Blayne and husband Coy, Ben, and Thomas. Frank was loved and will be dearly missed by all of us.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Tularosa Basin Historical Society, 1004 N. White Sands Blvd, Alamogordo, NM 88310. Donations can be made online at https://www.tbhsmuseum.com/donate.html.
