Frances J. Miller (Sissel) went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 19, 2020. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The daughter of Lona Estell England and Charles B. Sissel, she was born on February 26, 1925 in the Jardin community, seven miles north of Commerce, Texas.
Frances made her profession of faith at age eleven and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Commerce, Texas. She married the love of her life, Lt. (later Capt.) Rubin Joseph Miller of Perkinsville, Indiana at the parsonage of First Baptist Church, Commerce on May 20, 1945.
She received her education in Commerce public schools, graduating high school in 1942. She went to work for Dyer Insurance Agency on August 4, 1942 and retired in 1987, having worked for the father, son, and grandson.
After retirement, Frances enjoyed her volunteer work for the Hospital Auxiliary Bargain Box and for Meals on Wheels, where she worked in the kitchen. She served on the Meals on Wheels Board of Directors as well as the Rosemound Cemetery Board of Directors. In 1999 she received the Commerce Volunteer Service Award for her service.
Frances had many deep and lasting friendships. She was frequently cooking, baking, visiting and sharing with many. She was proud to say that she had friends of all ages and nationalities. She really enjoyed being with young people. Ironically, a number of her friendships dated back to her high school years.
