Floyd Adkinson

Johnny Floyd Adkinson, 75, of College Station, Texas, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Visitation will be Saturday, May 14 from 1:00-2:00 with services to follow at Callaway-Jones in Bryan. Burial will be at Restever Memorial Park Cemetery in Bryan.

Floyd was born in Texasville, Alabama and grew up the son of a sharecropper. Life was hard, but he was an industrious person. He was always working to make life better whether he was a young child picking cotton in the fields with his brothers when he would easily out pick them each day resulting in about 100 lbs. more than his brothers or when he served as a leader on the athletic teams (basketball, football, and baseball) that he played in Jr. High and High School.

When he was a young teenager, he and some friends thought they could get a band together, but it didn’t really get off the ground. Perhaps, because you could often hear him singing “Them Old Cotton Fields Back Home,” he absolutely could not carry a tune.

Floyd came to Texas for work as a roofer on the Post Oak Mall in the early 1980s and has called it home ever since. If he was not working, he was spending time watching Josh play sports, tending to his animals, or running a poker table. He loved his family and his animals. His greatest joy was being a father and papa. Once his granddaughters were born, he would spend his weekends spoiling them rotten. His animals would benefit from this as well, always getting extra treats, maybe even McDonalds or Chick-fil-a.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Clyde Adkinson and Irma Jewell Adkinson, his sister Betty Hand, and his brothers Dan Adkinson, Pete Adkinson, and Bobby Adkinson.

He is survived by his son Joshua Adkinson and wife Katie, daughter Danae Adkinson, brothers Jimmy Adkinson and wife Debra, Robert Adkinson and wife Debbie, and Timmy Adkinson and wife Rachel, his granddaughters Makenzie and Madalyn Adkinson, and multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and even great-great nieces.
