Elmo Bird

Elmo M. Bird, 96, of College Station passed away on March 17, 2024.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday March 24^th at Rock Prairie Baptist Church 5000 Rock Prairie Road College Station, Texas.  Interment will be on Monday March 25^th at 2:00 pm at the College Station Memorial Cemetery 3800 Raymond Stotzer Parkway College Station, Texas.

Elmo was born on September 25, 1927, to Lee Henry Bird and Jesse Mae Davis Bird in Wortham, Texas.  After high school he went on to serve our county in World War II in Europe as a member of the US Army First Calvary Division from 1945 until the end of 1946.  He then married the love of his life Tressie Lucille Howard on July 27^th, 1947, in Houston, Texas.  They spent 74 years married and she passed away on October 13, 2021.  Elmo and his family spent 44 years living in La Marque, Texas where he worked at Union Carbide Company in Texas City, Texas as a Rigger Foreman; he was responsible for supporting cranes and other heavy equipment until his retirement.  After 38 years he retired on January 1^st, 1985, and then he relocated to College Station until his passing.

During his career and into retirement Elmo was active in his community.  He served as a volunteer fireman with the La Marque Fire Department and Deputy Chief with the La Marque Police department during his time living in La Marque, Texas.  He was also a past member of the La Marque Masonic Lodge #1325 in La Marque, Texas and a current member of Adam Royder Lodge #778 in Wellborn, Texas.

Elmo was proceeded in death by his parents; his wife; a son Elmo Bird Jr.; daughter Karen Leah Blanks; sisters Wauline (Cat) Floyd and Bernadine (Gal) Bradley; brothers Leo W. Bird, Douglas E. Bird, Gerald L. Bird, Virgil E. Bird, and grandson Brett Michael Bird.

Elmo is survived by daughters Cheryl Vinsonhailer and Beverly Price; son Ronald Bird; granddaughter Nicole Lange; grandsons Derek Bird, Sean McCarty, Casey Visonhaler, Craig Price, Steven Price, Ronnie Price, Jed Blanks and Justin Blanks; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Derek Bird, Casey Vinsonhaler, Craig Price, Ronnie Price, Jed Blanks, and Justin Blanks.

Honorary Pallbearers are Sean Mc Carty, Wayne Foskett, Grayson Lange, Cade Lange and David Price.
