Elizabeth K. Ellis

Elizabeth Keith Ellis, 89, of College Station went to be with her Savior on February 7, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Victoria, Texas on September 12, 1933, she was the daughter of James and Mattie Keith. Elizabeth, or Liz as she was called by her friends and Granny as she was known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School where she was a member of the Lee Brigadiers.

On March 12, 1951 she married Rennie A. Ellis, Jr. and they remained married for one month shy of 72 wonderful years.

After her marriage to Rennie, the couple moved to Ft. Belvoir, Virginia where Rennie was stationed as a Lieutenant in the United States Army.  In 1953, when her husband was deployed to Korea, Liz returned to Baytown to live with Rennie’s parents.  Her first son, David, was born while her husband was overseas.  After his return, they remained at home in Baytown with Rennie starting a career at the (then) Humble Oil and Refining Company in Baytown.  She gave birth to the couple’s second child, Kevin, in 1955.

Liz was a full-time mom to her two sons and a loving wife to her husband.  As her children grew she became an active volunteer in PTA, Little League, and Optimist Football among other organizations.  As her children left the nest she served as a volunteer at Sterling Municipal Library in Baytown and was active in the library’s genealogy club.  She also helped teach GED prep courses at the library as well as tutored GED students on a volunteer basis at the couple’s home.

In 2005, Liz said she’d experienced her, “last danged hurricane,” and she and Rennie moved to College Station where they became avid Aggie Baseball fans and season ticket holders.

In addition to her full life as a mom and wife, Liz was also a talented self-taught painter and her works are cherished by family members.  Though she was a good cook, she hated cooking.  As she liked to say, “the only reason I have a kitchen is because it came with the house.”  Grand-daughter Patricia had the quote memorialized on a plaque that hangs in Granny’s kitchen to this day.

Elizabeth will be remembered for her humor, kindness, and generosity.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Rennie, son David and wife Patti, as well as grandchildren David “Bo” Ellis, Jr. and wife Patricia, Molly Raney and husband Jordan,  Emily Eifert and husband Walker, Ashley Reed, Natalie Ellis, and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by son Kevin Robert Ellis.

Liz’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Tina Green, Tish Johnson, Hospice Brazos Valley, Dr. Laura Muehr, Dr. Haley Hogue, and the ICU and Intermediate Care Nursing Staff at Scott and White Hospital, College Station for their skilled, compassionate and loving care.
