Duwayne Sandel

Raymond Duwayne Sandel, 83, of Bryan, Texas, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born August 27, 1940, in Houston to Raymond A. and Gladys (Ellison) Sandel.

Duwayne was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1966.  A hard worker, he spent most of his career at Brazo County and Grimes County Tax Offices.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing, going to casinos, discovering his ancestry, and traveling, especially to Colorado.

Duwayne is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Rebecca (Becky) Dawn, his sister Virginia (Sandel) and husband Richard Smith, father-in-law Ray Willamson, mother-in-law Margie and husband J.W. (Preacher) Richie, brother-in-law Ron Williamson, sister-in-law Debbie Williamson, and nephew Jason Currie, and niece Rachel Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Carol Jeane (Williamson) Sandel, brother-in-law Kenneth and wife Beth Williamson, nieces and nephews Paige (Smith) and husband Jerry Street, Shannon Smith, Wendy Smith, Tracy Smith, Robin Williamson, Jerry Currie and Courtney Lenz, great nieces Shelbi Currie, Sydney Christian, and Kaitlyn Pledger and great nephew Cooper Currie. Duwayne is also survived by the children of his closest friends and considered them all family.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Sherry Robertson and Tracy Price who provided around-the-clock care for Duwayne during the last few weeks of his life. Sincerest thanks are also given to his nurse and aide Sarah and Angie, of Luminos Hospice.

Visitation will be held at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan from 2:00-4:00 pm, Sunday, July 28, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests anyone who wishes to donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or other charity of their choice.
