Dorothy Hightower

August 26, 1945 — October 31, 2020

Dorothy June Hightower “Dottie”, né Luckey, 75, of College Station, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020, in Belton, Texas. Dottie was born on August 26, 1945, in Rockdale, Texas to Rufus Ervin and Wilma Odell (Dickey) Luckey. Dottie was the fifth of six children, of whom she remained close with throughout her life. Dottie loved her church and her church family as much as her own family, as well as her bookstore family, that she managed with much love and compassion. She enjoyed traveling, reading, volunteering and just simply visiting. Dottie was a beautiful calligrapher, an active listener and a master story teller. She spent much of her time sharing stories with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. “G-Dot” was Dottie’s most precious title, reserved for the few most precious beings in her life, her grandchildren. Dottie’s beautiful smile, laugh, amazing spirit and hugs will be missed by all for years to come.

Dottie is survived by her loving children and their families: Kendall Hightower (Michele) of Memphis, TN., Carlton Hightower (Tami Jo) of Belton, TX., Karen Hightower (Tony Taylor) of Temple, TX. Her precious grandchildren: Mason Hightower of Belton, TX., Jordan Hightower of Belton, TX., Lauren Hightower (Mark Gamboa) of Austin, TX., Jeremiah Henderson of Galveston, TX. and Danielle Hightower of Memphis, TN. Her loving siblings: Cynthia “Cindy” Mushinski and John “Leon” Luckey of College Station, TX. And, numerous nieces and nephews that Aunt Dottie loved dearly.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, R.E. and Wilma O. Luckey and her siblings, James “Gene” Luckey, R.E. “Eddie” Luckey, Jr. and Vera Knowles.

Dottie requested that her body be donated to science, to give others an opportunity to learn as much from her as they can. Texas A&M Health Science Center for Medical Studies gratefully accepted her request on Monday, November 2, 2020. Also, per her request there will be no public celebration of her life. Any memorial donations can be given in her honor to First Baptist Church Bryan – Building Fund or MD Anderson Cancer Research Centers. Arrangements are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers.
