Donna Kay Taylor, 80, of College Station, Texas passed away on March 4, 2025.
A visitation will be held in her honor on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 5-8 pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas. A funeral service will be held on the following day, Monday, March 17, 2025, at 1 pm with graveside to follow at Bryan City Cemetery. A repass will follow the graveside services at Brazos Valley Senior Citizen Center, 1402 Bristol Street, Bryan. Pastor George Beckworth, Pastor Christopher Goins, Pastor Gary Jones, and Pastor Brodrick Ross will have the honor of officiating the services.
Donna was born on January 17, 1945, to parents Joeanna and Cager Carter in College Station, Texas. She attended Lincoln High School in College Station and later went on to attend Austin Community College where she earned her associate’s degree in social work. She also earned her certification to become an Activity Director.
Donna worked at the Leisure Lodge Nursing Home, the Hearne Hospital where she served as the Assistant Activity Director, and the Calvert Nursing Home where she spent 25 rewarding years as the Activity Director. After 25 years, Donna decided to officially retire and spend her spare time pursuing the things she loved such as crafts, cooking, and her favorite of all, taking care of her grandbabies.
Donna was very involved with her community. She was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4692 Auxiliary, a member of the Nancy Perkins Women’s Club, and the Texas Association of Women and Youth Club. She was on several committees including the cemetery advisory board for the Parks and Recreations of Bryan, Bryan Housing Authority committee, NAACP Scholarship committee, and was also a boys and cub scouts troop leader.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joeanna Taplin Carter and Cager Carter, as well as husband Malvin Taylor.
She is survived by her children Felicia Benford, Djuna Jones, Joanetta Carter, and Dana Carter (all of Bryan, Texas), Josephus and Doris Carter (College Station, Texas), La’Trevia Grimes (Calvert, Texas), brother Douglas Carter (Dallas, Texas), grandchildren Christopher Carter, Nicholas Carter, Felicia Laryea, Taylor Carter, Jordan Carter, Henry Jones III, Titus Jones, Trinity Jones, Ka’Marei Steptoe, Kamrence Scott, Kwentez Grimes, and great grandchildren Alanna Carter and Malachi Smith.
