Donald Murray Ewing was born on February 2, 1935, to the late Guy M. Ewing and Elsie Ellyson Ewing, in Georgetown, Texas. He was raised in Georgetown, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown and graduated from Georgetown High School. He married Dorothy “Lavon” Hirt on December 31, 1956, at the San Gabriel Baptist Church parsonage.
He and Lavon lived in many places, and he held a variety of jobs, including a golf course groundskeeper, oil truck driver and ended with custodial/maintenance work at HEB in College Station. His last years were spent in Bryan, Texas.
Don loved a good cup of coffee, hot or cold, and he knew no strangers. He was a very regular customer at Sodolak’s Restaurant in Bryan, and if not there, at the Cotton Patch Cafe in Bryan, until his health wouldn’t allow him to go anymore. The boys joked that he knew someone everywhere – they had taken him to Tyler for a funeral and stopped to eat at a Cotton Patch Cafe there – sure enough he knew one of the waitresses working there.
He passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, July 8, , 2023, in Bryan, Texas, reaching the age of 88 years old.
Don is preceded in death by his wife, Lavon and his parents, Guy and Elsie Ewing; his daughter-in-law, Doris Ewing; his brother and wife, Marshall and Barbara Ewing; and his brother, William Loua Ewing.
