Richard Harry Deiterich, “Dick”, at the age of 95, went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 13, 2023. Dick was the first of 4 siblings born to Harry and Mary Deiterich, in Bloomsburg, PA on January, 3rd 1928.
While attending high school, he served as a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol, for which he later received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2011.
He entered the Army during WWII right out of high school. Dick served stateside with the Postal Unit at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After leaving the service, he worked as an accountant in Houston TX. Soon he married Mafel, who had two children, Joe and Gwen. After a long and happy marriage to Mafel he became a widower.
He retired to Grimes County where he enjoyed golfing and working as a precinct judge.
In 2004 Dick married his loving wife Wanda at a ceremony at Disney World. Wanda brought her three children Wendy, Whitney, and Wesley, to the mix
Dick and Wanda are faithful members of Christ’s Way Baptist Church, and together they served in the American Legion for many years. Wanda and Dick enjoyed seeing the world from the deck of a cruise ship.
Dick’s passion for aviation and especially WWII airplanes has led him to accrue over 800 volunteer hours at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, TX.
Richard is survived by his wife Wanda and their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother Chuck Deiterich (Betty), and sister Ruth McNulty. His sister Molly preceded him in death. He had many loving nieces and nephews as well.
A celebration of life will be held at Callaway-Jones, 3001 S. College Ave., Bryan, TX 77801, on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at 2:00pm. The Full Military honors will begin promptly at 2:00, so be here by 1:45 pm. There will be a private graveside service for the family at a later time.
