Dennis Newton of Bryan, Texas passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the age of 74. His life will be celebrated at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 2:00 pm with an interment to follow at Bryan City Cemetery. Visitation will be offered at 1:00 pm, one hour prior to the funeral service at Callaway-Jones.
Dennis was born November 24, 1949, in Levelland, Texas, to Robert (Bob) Newton and Louise Fred Newton and grew up in rural communities of Enochs and Wilson. He graduated high school at Bula School where he played all sports and distinguished himself on the debate team.
Dennis married his childhood friend and high school sweetheart, Patricia Grusendorf, on June 14, 1969. Their honeymoon was spent in Snyder, Texas, on the way to their new home in “Aggieland.” Dennis attended Texas A&M University for both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He so loved the university that he tried to “indoctrinate” any little kid that came his way.
Dennis worked for Texas Agri Life Extension (or Extension Service as it was known in 1972) for 31 years. His work as a County Agent took him to Rusk, Stinnett, and Hereford, Texas before his retirement in 2003. He loved working with farmers and 4-H children alike. Dennis demonstrated his love for Jesus by attending a First Baptist Church wherever he lived. He felt Masonic teachings made him a better husband, father, and person and was a member of Hereford Masonic Lodge #849 until his death. Dennis had such a positive influence on so many people.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Patrick. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Bryan, Texas; a son, Cory, of Mondovi, Wisconsin; a granddaughter, Kylie and daughter-in-love Jamie of Arlington, Texas; brother Tom and wife Carolyn of Morton, Texas; and brother Steve and wife Rhea Lyn of Brownwood, Texas, plus many dear nephews, nieces and spouses and their children.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation. Please go to texas4hfoundation.org and follow their directions.
