Delphine (Matcek) Schultz, age 90, of Bryan, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 05, 2024, in her daughter and son-in-law’s home. Her passing was just a short three months of following her husband’s death. In April they celebrated 70 wonderful years of marriage.
Delphine was born in Caldwell, Texas, to Walter Sr. and Mary (Horcica) Matcek on June 21, 1934. She was raised in a happy family of 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Their life was a living example of always putting God first and to love and respect others. Delphine was baptized and confirmed in The New Tabor Brethren Church in Caldwell where her father was a founding member. After marrying Edwin Schultz and moving to Bryan, she became a member of Faith United Church of Christ where she was an active member until she was no longer able to attend due to her health. She taught Sunday school for many years and made a huge impact on many young children’s lives.
Delphine lived a full and happy life. She always brought joy to every situation with her positive inspiration and kind heart. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and an aunt who was so proud of her family and her Czech heritage. She was known for her delicious kolaches, pies, and homemade cookies. She would always make our favorite dessert for our birthday. She was also known for loving to play dominoes and had a passion for traveling with family and friends.
In addition to being a great housewife, Delphine had a very successful career with the Kirby Vacuum Company as a salesperson. She had an extensive list of customers even in several small towns around Bryan College Station. People gravitated to her warm and charming personality. She made numerous friendships and had many repeat customers as a result. She was awarded several trips to honor her sales successes.
Delphine is predeceased by her beloved husband, Edwin Schultz, who passed away September 9, 2024, Both of her parents Walter Sr. and Mary ( Horcica ) Matcek; brother Anton and sister-in-law Kristina Matcek; sister Margaret and brother-in-law Leroy Leazer; brother Walter Jr.; and sister Gladys and brother-in-law Jake Frieda.
Delphine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Joan Schultz of Bryan, her daughter and son-in-law Lynette and John Ruffino of Bryan; Granddaughters Audrey Guidry and husband Mike of College Station; Jaclyn Groves and husband Dwight of Bryan; Lauren Eller and husband Ross of Bryan; Grandson, Matthew Schultz and wife Callen of Flower Mound Texas. Great-Grandchildren, Alyssa and Jacob Guidry; Hudson and Garrett Groves; Emma and Scarlett Eller; and Benjamin Schultz. Brother, Arnold Matcek; Brother and Sister-in-law Jerry Matcek and wife Dorothea; Sister-in-Law Frances Matcek; Sister-in-Law Rada Schultz and numerous nieces and nephews. All of these she loved and touched dearly.
Serving as Pallbearers include Matthew Schultz, Daniel Matcek, Michael Matcek, Allen Matcek, Jimmy Matcek, Jason Leazer, and Honorary Pallbearers, Tony Matcek and Dennis Frieda.
Delphine leaves a legacy in our family of faith, hope and love, in which we will always remember and cherish.
Delphine’s family would like to give a special thank you for the love, compassion, gentle care, and support she received from Marjorie, Anna, Pastor Pat, Jana and Joe at Accent Care Hospice.
Also, our family wishes to thank Dr. Julie Lim for numerous years of personal care she gave our mother.
Rev. Karl Tewald will officiate the Funeral Service for Delphine Schultz at 10:00 am, Monday, December 16, 2024 at Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Center in Bryan with a reception to follow at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Smetana Cemetery.
