Darrell Lee Swarthout

Darrell Lee Swarthout, 85 years f age, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 peacefully at his home in Montgomery, Texas surrounded by his loved ones. Callaway Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas has been so gracious to handle the transport of his body to Texas A&M Health Science Center where his body will be studied by medical students. A celebration of life is to be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

Born on October 18, 1936 in Houston, Texas to the late Delbert and Ruth Swarthout. His brother Lanny preceded his death in 2003 while his sister, Maryann still currently resides in Montgomery, Texas at the family home. Growing up Darrell was the spitfire of the family and always looked for an adventure. He joined the United States Army in 1955 and served through 1959 stationed in Munich, Germany. His sense of adventure didn’t end there; he went on to run a successful home building business, a detail business and had many years of service with the local school district.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Linda Lee Swarthout; children Kathleen Swarthout, Katrina and spouse David Toddy; Tammy and spouse Jon Coppler; Teresa Padgett; Deanna Lacy; Melissa Doyle; Sandra and spouse Stephen Newton; Ronny and spouse Tina Spivey; Crystal and spouse Johnny Mills; Michael Swarthout; Stephanie Swarthout and Jake Coar. Along with twenty-four grandchildren and forty great grandchildren. Not to mention the numerous amounts of nieces, nephews, and many others he considered family.

His daughters Carolee Coar and Dorothy Scroggins, son in law Frank “Bull” Doyle, “husband in law” Kenneth “Jake” McCreary, and granddaughter Tiffany Toddy precede his death.
