Connie Salazar, 83, passed away on Tuesday October 20, 2020 in Bryan Texas. Visitation for family and friends with a prayer service was Friday, October 23, 2020 at Callaway Jones Funeral Home. Celebration of life Tribute will be 11 am, Saturday, October 24, 2020, at the funeral home with the interment to immediately follow at Rest Ever Memorial Park. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation, Bryan College Station.
Connie was born in Wheelock, Texas on June 22, 1937 to Julian and Guadalupe Alaniz Sustaita. She was one of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Sustaita. Connie’s love of family and friends will forever be remembered. Her commitment to making every day brighter for her and others will always be in our hearts. Connie created a life and legacy in her hometown of Bryan, Texas where she lived her entire life.
As a teenager, Connie started to sew, not knowing this would be the beginning of her journey as a seamstress. Her first employment was with Conway’s Department Store working alongside her mother as her mentor. When Conway closed permanently, she then began her career at J.C. Penney’s for over 30 years. She spent most of her time doing what she loved to do, reading her Bible every day, talking about all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, her daily trips to McDonalds for coffee with her family and friends and attending her church and seeing her church family, at Templo Buenas Nuevas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Job Salazar of 64 years of marriage, her brothers Andrew “Andy” Sustaita and Sam Sustaita, her sister Sara Zamora, and her brother in law, Ignacio Salazar.
Connie is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Thomas Herrera, Annette and Ben Barajas, Brenda and Arthur Bernal, Cynthia and Joel Castillo. Her sisters, Josie Salazar, Esther Sustaita, her sister-in-law Mary Lou Sustaita, Brother-in-law, Bill Zamora; her nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren with one on the way; her numerous nephews and nieces and other family members.
As a special Thank you, we would like to acknowledge her sister, Esther, Nieces: Michelle and Diane for their endless time spent with her while her time in the hospital.
Honoring Connie’s life as Pallbearers are Anthony Bernal, Jeffery Bernal, Ben J. Barajas, Christian Bernal, Joshua Castillo, Troy Mears and Joel Lazo.
