Clara Russell Arterburn, daughter of Roy and Pearl Russell, passed away peacefully at the age of 95, on May 8, 2023. She was born in Ranger, Texas May 17, 1927. She attended St. Regis Catholic Church in Ranger and then graduated from Ranger High where she met her husband Walter Arterburn, who passed away at age 69.
Clara is survived by her brother Bill Russell and her sister, Mary Ponder, who is a resident of Bryan-College Station, and her two sons Terry and Stephen Arterburn.
Walter was in the Navy and that caused them to live in Bellingham, Washington and San Jose, California before settling back in Ranger where they lived until 1959 when they moved to Bryan, Texas.
In 1960 Clara graduated from Bryan School of Cosmetology and although discovering she was allergic to hairspray, owned and operated 3 Successful Beauty Salons. She was a dedicated Christian with a strong faith that served her well through many hard times. She and Walter worked with young married couples at the First Baptist Church of Bryan, Texas and influenced hundreds of couples with their dedication and commitment to be there whenever any of the couples were struggling.
A service honoring her life and work will be held on what would have been her 96th Birthday, May 17 at 10 A.M. at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan.
It is said of Clara that if she is not in heaven, no one is going to be there.
