Christopher Michael Driskell

October 13, 1977 — November 26, 2023

Chris Driskell was born in Houston, Texas on October 13th, 1977 to Michael and Beverly Driskell. He has two sisters, Heather and Ashley, who call him Bubby and  have always known that he is the favorite one. Throughout his childhood he enjoyed various family activities like boating, water-skiing, and teaming up with older sister Heather in convincing Ashley she was adopted. She isn’t… that she knows of.

He spent his formative years living in Kaneohe, Hawaii where he developed his love for sun, sand, warm weather, reggae music, spam musubi and dried cuttlefish (a smell sure to evacuate any room immediately upon entering).

Next he hit the Grunge scene in the height of the 90’s living in the outskirts of Seattle, Washington where he expanded his tastes and talents to include Nirvana, flannel, skateboarding, and horticulture. Thus creating the hippie beach bum we all know and love. After a short stint in California, he ended up in College Station, Texas where he would build a life surrounded by great friends and family.

He spent his young adulthood in food service before learning tile-work from the best of the best, his dad, thus beginning his lifelong career in construction. When cancer started showing symptoms, but before he was diagnosed, Chris joined his wife, Rachel, in her wedding photography business where he showed off his eye for composition and his handiwork with a drone. When symptoms made work unbearable, Chris became a stay at home dad, a dream for him, and started a business making oils, tinctures, and soaps which his little sister affectionately named Bro’s Apothecary, a nod to a favorite tv show. This business instead became a very expensive hobby because he was so excited to give out his hippie potions to anyone in need… for free.

Chris was diagnosed with a very rare brain cancer in May of 2021, when Doctor’s finally took him seriously, and began his fight. Chris, just like his mom, believes in a holistic approach to healing and together they spent hours researching the best alternative therapies for brain cancer. Chris received radiation, and also attended a holistic healing center in Mexico, and had a strict daily regimen of healthy eating, supplement taking, and oil rubbing. He outlived everyone’s expectations and we can only assume it is from the way he cared for his body as he fought.

Chris collected children and ended up with 6 in total. He was the best dad and bonus dad anyone could ask for. He loved spending meaningful time with his kids, resulting in his well rounded repertoire of shared hobbies such as video games and dirt bikes with Harrison, exploring Astrological signs with Topanga, going on daddy-daughter dates and watching Christmas movies with Kennedy, video games and baseball with Blake, meaningful conversations in car rides with Reagan, and after school restaurant outings with Matti where “he always asked about her boring school life”. He spent 16 years loving and raising kids with his wife, Rachel, and they had hoped to finish out their days together as old, wrinkled hippies in Hawaii. In addition to spending time with his family, he was always down to have a beer and watch HGTV, play party games, or relax on the water.

Chris’ ashes will be divided among his family members to be scattered in a place that reminds them of him… basically giving everyone an excuse to go to Hawaii.

Chris is survived by his parents, Michael and Beverly Driskell, his two sisters, Heather Langford and Ashley Hapoff, many nieces and nephews, his wife Rachel Driskell, and his children and bonus children Blake, Topanga, Reagan, Mattison, Kennedy, and Harrison.

Chris had a huge heart, a sweet smile, a goofy laugh, and open arms. He had such a calming presence about him which earned him so many wonderful friendships.  He gave so much love, light, and grace to those he spent time with, and we hope to have his legacy live on by taking that piece of him and sharing it with others. He loved Jesus and lived like he did. His faith secures him a spot in heaven and he will gladly save you a cloud seat next to him.

Until we see you again, shaka brah.
