Charles M. Lanicek, 89, passed away on April 13, 2023, in Bryan, Texas from natural causes. Charles was born on August 23, 1933, in Galveston, Texas to George and Hermina Lanicek. He proudly attended and graduated from SFA High School and Texas A&M. He loved his country and proudly served in the US Army Reserves for over 27 years retiring as a Command Sergeant Major with the medical corps. He worked at the Texas A&M Veterinary Hospital as the hospital administrator retiring in 1994. He was a proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Charles loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, raising cattle and playing dominoes and poker with his loving family and friends. He was truly one of a kind. He had the biggest heart and enjoyed sharing the ability to entertain people with jokes and tall tales. He never met a stranger because he made friends with all who crossed his path. He loved spending time on the Navasota River. He was very proud of his family and bragged to everyone he knew about them.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; George and Hattie Lanicek; son, Charles Lanicek Jr. (Charlie); 2 sisters, Joan Kosarek and Delores Kuciemba; and a great-grandaughter, Khloe Lanicek.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lanicek; daughter, Dovie Hancock and son in law, Jesse Hancock; 2 grandsons, Derik and wife, Brittany Lanicek, and Rusty and wife, Laila Lanicek; granddaughter, Mattie Placencia and husband, Sergio Placencia; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Loretta Lanicek, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.The family would like to thank the girls at Allumine Home Health and Hospice for taking such great care of him.
