Charles was called home to his heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ on January 13, 2024 with his family and pastor by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Faye Arnold Terry, daughter Melanie Lynn Landis (and husband Skip), son Brad Terry (and wife Elsa), granddaughters Isabel Altom (and husband Jasper) and Maia Terry, and his beloved dog “Lady”. He is preceded in death by his parents James Russell and Eleanor Mossberg Terry, his sister Nancy Terry Mills (and her husband Major Jerry Mills), and his infant son Russell Fredrick Terry.
Charles was born and raised in Macon, GA where he first met Faye in the second grade. He attended Lanier High School going on to graduate from the University of Georgia where he enlisted in the US Army Reserves. Influenced by his mother, a public health nurse, Charles joined the CDC-STD division soon after graduation. He rose through the ranks from investigator to Program Administrator, a career that spanned 34 years and took the family to several states, including a stint in Texas. After retirement, Charles and Faye initially returned to Macon to care for his aging mother and eventually returned to Texas settling in College Station to be near his daughter and son-in-law. It was by God’s grace and provision that Charles started attending Southern Oaks Baptist Church (now Redeemer Baptist Church) and under the gentle guidance of Paster Castillo, truly began to understand salvation in Christ.
Throughout his life Charles had a heart for service which was initially evident by his choice of a medically-associated profession, and service in the National Guard. After retirement he found other options to serve including working at the church pantry, serving on the board of his former church, and becoming an active member of the American Legion’s (Earl Graham Post 159) Honor Guard. Charles’ passion throughout his life was aviation. He held a private pilot’s license throughout much of his life and enjoyed short day trips with Faye where they would often fly into a small airport just for lunch.
In recognition of Charles’ love for his church family, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Redeemer Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 10-11 AM followed by the Funeral at 11 AM on Friday, January 19, 2024, all at Redeemer Baptist Church, 4001 E. 29th Street, Suite 80, Bryan, TX 77802. Military honors will follow the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Macon, GA.
