Carmel “Putsie” Dietz Eberhard of Bryan, Texas passed away on July 1, 2024, at the age of 96.
Carmel was born May 4, 1928 in New Braunfels, TX, the youngest of two daughters, to Milton and Ralla (Sadue) Dietz. As a child she was called “Putsie,” a German term of endearment meaning “cute one” or “little one”. She graduated from New Braunfels High School and the University of Texas in 1950.
While playing golf with mutual friends, Putsie met her future husband Eddie Eberhard from Seguin, TX. They were married March 12, 1955 and moved to Victoria, TX where their two sons, David and John were born. Eddie’s 35 year working career with Shell Oil took them to Houston, and then Slidell, Louisiana, where they lived for 42 years. In 2013 Putsie and Eddie moved to Bryan, TX to begin a new adventure and be closer to family.
While in Slidell, Putise was involved in activities at First United Methodist Church, the schools, community and Bridge clubs. Putise and Eddie enjoyed traveling to numerous states, Norway, England, and Indonesia. Much laughter was shared on yearly cruises with dear friends, Jan, Peggy and Linnie, also referred to as the “Golden Girls”. Some of the most treasured memories with children and grandchildren were made while on vacations to the beach and snow skiing. She was lovingly called Grandmother by her four grandchildren who cherish stories of adventures with her and Granddad.
Putsie is survived by her two sons, David Eberhard and wife Ronie of College Station, TX and John Eberhard and wife Diana of Coushatta, LA, grandchildren Scott Eberhard and wife Keri of Lubbock, TX, Erin Eberhard Erger and husband Rob of Spring, TX, Bryan Eberhard and wife Lanie of Dallas, TX, Rachel Eberhard Upshaw and husband Brewer of Shreveport, LA and great grandchildren, Kyla and Kason Eberhard, Robby, John Henry and Emma Erger and James Upshaw.
