Carla Ann “Thomas” Carroll of Bryan TX passed away Tuesday July 5, 2022at the age of 81. A memorial will be held on Monday July 11, 2022, at 10am at Callaway Jones Funeral & Cremation Center in Bryan, TX. Graveside service will be held immediately after at Peach Creek Cemetery in College Station, Tx.
Carla was born to Carl Houston Thomas and Edna McGregor Thomas on September 26, 1940, in Bryan, Tx. On Carla’s first day of school, she met a boy she would later marry, his name was George Carroll Jr. Carla made her first profession of faith in the Summer of 1957, in her best friend’s (Judy) closet in Jacksonville, Tx. Carla excelled in all levels of school, and she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1958 and then began college at Sam Houston State Teachers College, in Huntsville, Tx. The first degree that she obtained was a Bachelor of Science in 1961 and then went for her master’s degree in 1962. Carla moved to Orange, New Jersey to attend Smith College where she obtained another master’s degree in Social work. In 1966 Carla moved back to Texas and worked in Houston, Tx and Corpus Christi, Tx as a Juvenile Probation officer. She loved helping young people and being a ” career woman”, like her dad had been. In 1971 she married George Carroll Jr. and a few years later, their only daughter, Amanda was born. At that point Carla became a stay-at-home mom and helped George run his plumbing company. In 1982 Carla renewed her profession of faith while sitting in her office drinking coffee with (Erma) a dear friend. She loved her lord and savior and loved the USA. She also loved to cross stitch and loved all her kitty cats, too.
Carla is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Edna Thomas and her husband George Carroll Jr.
Carla is survived by her daughter, Amanda (Mandi) and Keith Peters of Bryan, Tx. Her granddaughter, Emily Peters of Bryan, Tx. Two brothers in laws, Jim and J.B. Carroll of Navasota, Tx, two nieces, Jennifer Carroll and husband John Rosshirt and family of Bryan, Tx, Amy Carr and family of Coral Springs, Fl., nephew, Jay Carroll and family of Spring, Tx., along with great nieces, great nephews, and numerous family and friends.
