Bruce Wayne Sims

February 5, 1950 — May 4, 2023

Bruce Wayne Sims passed from this earth to his heavenly reward on May 4, 2023 surrounded by close friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan on Friday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m.
Born on February 5, 1950 in Navasota, Texas, he grew up and attended schools there. Known as a big guy with a bigger heart, he was also well-known for his athletic prowess on the Rattlers’ football team. He graduated from Navasota High School and later attended Blinn College.
Bruce was exceptionally generous, courageous, and compassionate. He was always there to help others in need. These traits served Bruce well after high school when he served as a peace officer with the Navasota Police Department. He eventually moved to College Station in 1979 where he was employed by and reached the rank of Sergeant with the College Station Police Department.
Bruce was well- respected in his field and others would seek out his advice and wisdom in dealing with situations. He never shied away from telling the truth, even at inconvenient times. His high ethical standards and honor were ingrained in his character. His love of Jesus guided every decision he made, and he was a light for God in all his endeavors. Miracles were known to happen when he was on shift—he had a praying wife as well! He supervised many rookie police officers, and quickly gained their admiration, respect, and friendship. Only a select number of officers know why Sgt. Sims was given the nickname of “The Crane!”
Upon his retirement from the police department in 2003 Bruce worked several years with his good friends who owned Sherlock Realtors. He was a computer whiz and enjoyed the camaraderie and helping them start their business.
Bruce will be remembered for his love of God, all things country, family, friends, and animals ‘great- and-small.’ In recent years his health limited his travels, but he was a content homebody and enjoyed grilling, reading, and learning new woodworking skills.
Bruce is survived by his good friends who are too numerous to name. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Wesley Sims and Alta Lee Sims, and sister, Alice Rose Sims.
Special thanks to Wayne Watson for his unwavering and faithful friendship, as well as the incredibly kind doctors, nurses, and staff at Baylor Scott & White.
