In loving remembrance, the family of Bobbie Sue Walkup announce the passing of her gentle, beautiful, sweet soul to her heavenly home Sunday,September 3,2023. Visitation for Bobbie begins at 10 am Saturday, September 9th, with a service to follow at 11 am at Callaway Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas. Internment immediately to follow at Restever Memorial Park Cemetery.
The only child of George and Effie Fausett, Bobbie Sue, was born at home in the small Texas town of Mertens on March 26, 1928. She grew up in Fort Worth, her father a bookkeeper, her mother a worker in their home cleaning and cooking for borders. While attending Texas Wesleyan College in 1948, she had a blind date with an Aggie to go to a football game. She traveled by train and met her date at the depot called College Station and stayed at the MSC Hotel. Five years later, in 1953, she married that Aggie, Houston “Cleve” Walkup in Fort Worth, Texas. In the early years of their marriage, her role was the wife of an Ag teacher and mother of 3 children: Ann, Sue, and David. She obtained her Master’s in Education from North Texas and tried teaching school. Then, in 1967, the Walkup family moved to Aggieland, where she resided for 56 years untill her passing. She worked in the Registrar’s office for 22 years calculating graduate student Grade Point Ratios, loving all things Aggie, especially Aggie football.
Bobbie’s focus for several years was being a caregiver for others, first for her husband’s sister, Nina, then her mother, Effie, and finally for her husband, Cleve, until their passing. The family is grateful for her loving caregivers and friends, Carmen Cabellero and Pam Walkup. Her relationship with them brought her so much joy in her later years.
Preceding her in death are her parents, George and Effie Fausett, her husband of over 60 years, Houston “Cleve” Walkup, and recently, her granddaughter, Lee Ann Winkler.
Survivors whom she loved so very much include her three children and their spouses. Ann (Fred) Schlutt, David (Pam) Walkup, and Sue (Larry) Winkler, plus 11 surviving grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
