Arthur C. (A.C.) Vinzant March 25, 1935 - November 25, 2024
A.C. Vinzant, 89, of College Station, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, in his home surrounded by his two daughters, Pam & Wendy. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at First Baptist Church College Station, with a reception immediately following. Cremation services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan/College Station.
While many knew him over the years, they often called him by different names. His Texas friends called him A.C., his Wyoming family called him Art and his late wife lovingly called him by his military nickname, Vince, for the 63 years they were together.
Born to Laurence and Mary (Kaura) Vinzant in Newcastle, Wyoming, he was raised in Thornton, Wyoming, and later in Sheridan, Wyoming, before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1953. While stationed at the Bryan Air Force Base in 1956, he met the love of his life, Teresa Ann Barrett, and married her on August 2, 1957. He continued to serve his county, helping to close the Bryan Air Force Base and ending his active military career at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas, before being honorably discharged in 1961 after 8 years of service.
In the next phase of his life, A.C. attended Barber College in Waco, Texas, and had his first job at Townshire Barbershop in Bryan. In 1964, he opened Redmond Terrace Barbershop and operated it until his retirement in 2000. He gifted the barbershop to his four employees: Roy, Jim, and Leonard, who sold their portion to the fourth, Dan Korczynski. A.C. helped Dan relocate, and Dan renamed it The Barber Shop. A.C. continued to work part-time for eight more years while he and Teresa spent the summers traveling. He always said he loved barbering and was blessed by God to live in a great community with wonderful people and great customers.
A.C. enjoyed serving his community and proudly served on the College Station School Board of Equalization, College Station School Board, and Capitol Improvement Committees. He was also a founding board member of the Brazos County Central Appraisal District, served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of College Station, and was an active member of the College Station Noon Lions Club. He was a man who truly lived by the Lions Club motto, We Serve.
A.C. was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Vinzant, his parents, and four siblings: Neoma (Vinzant) Beach, Stanley Vinzant, Susie (Vinzant) Martin, and Allen R. Vinzant.
He is survived by his two daughters, Pam and husband Eddie Shillings of Houston, TX, Wendy and husband Paul Cerhit of Redondo Beach, CA; his four grandchildren, Zoe Cerhit, Jonathan Shillings, James Shillings, Lenna and husband Norb Melendez and his first great-grandchild, Alejandro Melendez; his sister, Rose (Vinzant) Martin of Cheyenne, WY, and numerous extended family members across the country.
In remembrance of A.C. Vinzant's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the College Station Noon Lions Club or any organization of your choice. We would also like to thank AccentCare Hospice, St. Joseph Health College Station Hospital, and caregivers Bonnie Griffin and Pam Shillings for all the care during his last few weeks.
